These treats are a stormy mix of chocolate and marshmallow bound together by caramelized butter.
8 ounces butter, salted or unsalted, plus extra for pan
2 - 10 1/2 oz bag mini marshmallows
1 - 15 oz box Cocoa Krispies Cereal
1 - 10-12 oz bag Mini Chocolate Chips
Flake salt - optional
Line a 13" x 9" baking pan with buttered parchment paper or wax paper.
In a large pot, melt butter over medium-low heat. The butter will melt, foam, then turn a clear golden color before it will begin to turn brown and give off a nutty fragrance. You will want to watch closely for the transition so you do not burn the butter.
When butter is evenly browned, stir in one bag of marshmallows. Melt marshmallows into the butter, stirring often, until mixture turns pale brown, then stir constantly until lightly browned and smooth.
Remove pot from the heat.
Add each of the follow and stir to combine without over mixing:
Second bag marshmallows
Mini Chocolate chips
Transfer mixture into prepared pan pressing down lightly.
Sprinkle with flake salt.
Let cool, cut into squares. Makes 12-24 squares, depending on desired size.
